On this day in 1968, it was day 1 of the three day Miami Pop Festival. Performers included Joni Mitchell, Fleetwood Mac, Steppenwolf, Three Dog Night and the Grateful Dead. About 100,000 fans turned out for the shows.

It was on that same day in 1968, that The Doors release their song “Touch Me.” The song peaked at #3 here in the US, but did not chart in the UK.

On this day in 1978, Rolling Stone Magazine voted Some Girls by The Rolling Stones “Album of the Year.” The album has gone on to sell more than 6 Million copies here in the US, making it the Stones best selling album on this side of the Atlantic.

Dennis Wilson of The Beach Boys dies on this day in 1983, after diving into very cold water from his boat in Marina Del Rey. An autopsy showed the 39 year old Wilson was legally drunk at the time. 

What a line up! On this day in 1991, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana and Pearl Jam shared the stage at a concert in  San Diego, California.

And finally, it was on this day in 2002, that we lost Meri Wilson. She died in a car crash at age 53. She is best known for the sexually charged novelty hit called “Telephone Man.”
